I did a similar exercise taught to me when i was in high school. But i
am happier and more consistent when i purposely make no concious change.
The mouthpiece and reeds i use work best this way--probably why i chose
them.
Because of the discussions here on the list, i have been more aware of
tongue shape and placement, and have experiemented myself and with a
couple of students that were having less sucess in altisimo.
So far, i find that raising the back of the tongue helps the altisimo BUT
the same change improves the clarion and chalumuea as well. So I still
prefer the 'one embouchure'. Then the changes are for tone and musical
reasons.
