This is a common problem in large orchestra works, even those written by
composers who should know better (Stravinsky, Ravel, and Mahler come to
mind, but don't ask me to cite chapter, verse or measure number).

I believe that the concept of piccolo and Eb in unison is impossible
according to the laws of orchestral physics. ;-)
