Tony`s second reply
Bill,
I`ve not been blowing for a week, but in answer to you, this time properly:-
the R.H. little finger on low E does not work for the G# as you`ve probably
discovered by now. I wanted to clear that up. There <is no> other G#
fingering which is better than the normal one which is in the tutor book. It
is quite possible that your key is not venting the hole properly, in which
case you should get your repairer to look at it. The key may have had a
knock, and thus moved <nearer> to the body of the instrument.
A popular alternative G#/Ab, when previous notes are in order - R.H. Eb,
L.H. Db, is to use 1 and 2 with L.H. and 1 and 2 with R.H. <That> G# is not
good, so it needs a little extra control and a little more <puff> as it
sounds flat and dull. R.H. little finger on Eb brightens it a little, but
then that is a finger twister to some degree.
So stick with your original and have a look at the venting. Blown well, and
of course on a quality clarinet, it is a good note.
Regards,
Tony W.
