Alf,

Thank you for taking the time to write your most informative post.

Regarding bore and instrument length, Leblanc's alto clarinet and their
basset horn share the same, large bore. Selmer's basset horn has a much
smaller bore than their alto clarinet. Ditto for Leblanc's contra alto
and contra bass made of plastic and sold as Vito's. Selmer, again, makes
a distinction. I do believe their student grade, plastic contra bass
(yes, that's what Selmer insists on calling it) has a bore almost
identical to their rose wood, pro model. Selmer also distinguishes
between their two biggest clarinets and builds their rose wood, Eb
contra bass and their BBb contra bass in appropriate and different
bores.

As a side note, I think the Selmer plastic contra bass (contra alto) is
a fantastic instrument for the money. Like so many of their student line
horns, their contra bass has key work that feels just as bad as their
bass clarinet.

If money were no object, I would have one of each of the Selmer
instruments.
