Far from it Tony. I thought you gave Bill some excellent advice. All I
wish to add is this:
Bill, concentrate on those long tone warm-ups. Not only are they are
groundwork, like the foundation of a house, they actually help you to feel
relaxed while you play the rest of your practice session. Breathe in
deeply, expanding the lung cavity all around and down, and support the sound
with the abdominal muscles pushed out as the air comes out through the horn.
Use a metronome with quarter note at 60, and start with the lowest note on
the horn, played eight beats (or four if eight is pushing your luck).
i can't say enough what long tones and listening to myself for the overtones
in the sound does for me. Even on a plastic horn, you will get results,
and you will find yourself getting that sound I have seen you post about!
