Dear Jess,

You sound like a very dedicated young woman. Are you considering a career
in music? If so, there is nothing wrong with seeking lessons on more than
one instrument. Sometimes you can even find two teachers who are willing to
get together and cut you a break financially, as long as you do your part
and practice consistently on both instruments. A double major in college is
nothing to sneer at, especially if you are in music ed. It could probably
serve you quite well in college and help you get a few extra gigs later.
For me personally, being a pianist as well as a clarinetist (although I was
not a double major, I have studied piano and played since I was six) meant
that I was qualified for general music as well as band. I even served a
stint as a chorus teacher (gag). Best of Luck.

Patty Smith
