Although I agree that we should try to provide a positive environment for
the young student, I also believe that the young aspiring musician will come
up against a barrage of criticism when they seek to go into the arena of
professional musician. Some of it will be helpful, but most of it is
designed to tear down, at times motivated by professional jealously or just
plain arrogance. Once the student leaves the safe house of the local
school, where everybody patted him/her on the back and told them how great
they are, a different world awaits them. A thick skin and an understanding
of this reality will help them go a long. Frankly, this list gives a pretty
good dose of reality. Having said that, the expletives could have be
deleted.

As far as Pat Metheny goes, I have two of his CD's, I rarely listen to them.
Great player, just doesn't move me. Sorry for the subjective opinion.
