I suppose this is obvious, but you could manufacture a 'pad' that
was the same color as your shoe and then glue it to your shoe. This
wouldn't be as weird or as obvious as playing with bare feet.
It also occurs to me -- I don't know anything about either the
music or the instrument that you folks are discussing -- but I just
rented a bass clarinet with Eb on the horn. Closing the Eb hole has
some but minimal effect on notes that are a couple of tones or more
higher up. Is there any chance that the vent hole on the horn that
you're discussing could be plugged (perhaps for just a few bars) and
then a competent player could bend a few nearby notes if necessary,
until the plug was no longer needed?
