A big AMEN to this message.

I once had the enlightening situation of teaching a student whose
previous teacher was a very good friend of mine. I had, when still
playing some piano, played accompaniments with many of her students, and
so had observed her teaching over a period of years.

So I knew it was unlikely when this student would tell me "so-and-so
never told me *that* " on a basic concept.
