The Selmer Series 9's top joint starts out at .595" and has a linear taper
to .584" which is the minimum bore for the instrument. The merger point is
at the Bb trill key hole. The .584" is constant to the hole that the C-F
key controls.

The Leblanc claims that their LL's are purely cylindrical in the top joint.
That cylinder is .582". I have never personally measured a LL. What few
Leblanc's I have measured are not what their manufacture has claimed.

The Series 9 Bb is a really nice horn. They made them for over twenty
years. It is the best in tune large bore clarinet Selmer ever made. In this
respect it compares amazingingly well with an R 13. I wish they had done as
much work on their Series 9 A clarinet.

The Series 9's tone holes are, with only two exceptions, straight. The LL
claims to have undercut tone holes.

Subject: [kl] Series 9 and L7---a boring question

Hola,

Does anyone have knowledge of the LH-joint bore style of the Selmer Series 9
(not the Series 9 Star) and how it compares to the bore style used by
Leblanc in their L7 (and similar) instruments? What I'm trying to do is
compare the two instruments. My impression is the Selmer was a reverse cone
used in most Selmers up to that point. But what was used in the Leblancs
around the time of the "L" series instruments? The reason I ask is because I
find a strong similarity in playing characteristics.
Thanks,
