Subj: [kl] Beethoven Clarinet Concerto??!!
Date: Fri, 9 Jun 2000 18:00:43 -0400

Hi all,

Went shopping in Brisbane the other day, and came
across a disc that I thought may be of interest to
those on the list. It was the Mozart Concerto (Again)
but coupled with the Beethoven Violin Concerto Op. 61
arranged for clarinet!
The piece has been arranged by the pianist/conductor
Mikhail Pletnev for Michael Collins who is performing
it on the disc with the Russian National Orch. It is
on Deutsche Grammophone #457 652-2 .
What surprised me a little is the fact that the
transcription actually appears to work reasonably
well. The recording is good!!! I know of course that
Viol;in concertos have been trans. for clarinet before
but I cant personally remember sometine quite of the
scale of the Beethoven having been done. Believe me,
it sounds difficult (although it is very well played
by Collins) and he states in the notes that it is very
difficult in parts.
Anyway, thought you may be interested.
All the Best.

Rod
