To clarify - when I say push up with R.H. (to secure M/P inside Mouth),
I mean push up with R.H. <THUMB> (under thumb rest). You can`t push up
with R.H. <fingers> as <they> have got other work to do. Let the thumb
do the work. Just the minutest pressure will insert - (bad word to use)
- the M/P 1 or so mm. Let your lips go <with> the M/P. In other words do
not simply put more M/P <into> the mouth, otherwise you are back to
square one, squeaking uncontrollably.

Yes, I understand what you're saying. Actually, I did the D major
scale two octaves again last night with no hassle. Makes me feel good
that it wasn't just a fluke. I actually learned something and retained
it.

<><> If your mouth and lips get tired

[chuckle!] In my previous message, I typed that the high D was
"effortless" when I had everything the way it should be. What I meant,
of course, was that I didn't need to blow unusually hard, nor did I need
to bite down unusually hard. But the fact remains that when I'm playing
"effortlessly"above the staff, I get tired real quick and lose it.

...."effortless' is hard work! <smile>

<><> Done your 2 hours yet?

Assuming that you want a serious answer, I *do* practice for a couple of
hours each day, weekends and lesson days included; but only about 15-30
minutes of my practice time is actually blowing air through my clarinet.
The other 1-1/2 hours (or so) is resting my chops and thinking about
what I just did.
My instructor plays two shows per day (local musical theater) and
shows up at the studio to give lessons as well. So I know that it can
be done, but I'm not even close to that kind of stamina yet.

Cheers and thanks,
Bill
