My advice is to try them out at your local music store. Unlike
reeds and mouthpieces, there are no sanitation worries or worries about
leaving teeth marks on a ligature.
If you've been playing for less than a year, probably your
embouchure and breath support vary enormously from day to day anyway (I
certainly fall into this category) and the variation will overpower the
subtle influences of different ligatures.
The Eddie Daniels II feels solid to me (doesn't slip around), and
it does offer the option of putting either fabric or metal in contact
with the reed. Ligatures with fabric bodies give you a choice as to how
you 'cock' it in order to influence the tone; but once again, the
influence may be camouflaged completely by daily variations in your own
technique. I know that this can be hard to accept if you really _want_
to buy something. I've been there myself. But I don't think that I
accomplished anything by buying several different ligatures, except to
help stimulate the local economy.

Cheers,
Bill
