OK, Good Bill, Major accomplishment!, @-----. now

Actually I thought I might try playing these notes in a different
order now. I bet that a person could get some interesting results by
re-arranging the notes, maybe playing some of them twice or thrice,
maybe playing some a little longer, some a little shorter, softer,
louder .....

This reminds me of an old saw that: Amateurs practise till they get it
right once; professionals practise till they get it right every time.
Partially contradicting that, of course: *Successful* pros never need to
practise because they're always working. (Hmmmmm...)

Recently one of my granddaughters, six years old now, decided that
she wanted to play violin "like Mom does". So my daughter rented a
small violin (1/4-size or 1/8-size?) and offered to share ten minutes of
her own weekly lessons with her daughter. So far, the child has stuck
with it, but after a couple of practice sessions at home, she announced,
"I don't want to practice, I just want to play!"
Mom was quick on her feet: "Okay, there's no need to practice if
you don't want to. We'll play for 15 minutes instead, and since you
enjoy it, I promise that we'll play every day after school after we've
had milk and cookies."
It's all in the attitude, it is. Just last week, my granddaughter
gave me a decent rendition of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and explained
the right and wrong way of using the bow.
I guess the bottom line is that if practice isn't a pleasure, you
probably shouldn't be playing in the first place. Music is music, even
if you've already played it a 100 times before. I enjoy going back to
those 'Easy Clarinet Solos' that I began with.

Thanks and Cheers,
Bill
