I had a young boy, a 6th grade begginer, who was having a terrible time
going over the break. He could play from low C up to Bb no problem, but
couldn't get his right hand fingers to cover the holes for clarion B,C and
D. I finally got him to play E and go down one step at a time to get his
fingers over the holes. I had him do this several times in clarion and
chalumeax(sp). It worked. He was doing great, but I found he just quit band
last week because our damned Neanderthal coaches told him and several other
boys that they couldn't be in band and sports also and that band was for
sissies anyway. Next year will be interesting as my son will be starting
band, and the coaches want him very much as he has a fantastic throwing arm.
I forsee a very heated and verbal (maybe even physical) meeting in the
parking lot between the coaches and I. They do this every year and we loose
half of our band.>
