Subj: [kl] A Night in June
Date: Wed, 31 May 2000 09:12:19 -0400

"A Night in June" was written by Karl L. King (1891-1971) in 1912. Born
in Canton, Ohio, King
joined circus bands at age 19 and was director of the Ft Dodge, Iowa
Municipal band for over 50 years. King played the baritone horn during his
performing days. He regarded it as one of the most important instruments of
the band, rather than a background voice. He referred to it as the cello of
the band. "Night in June" features the baritone in a romantic serenade; was
a favorite of his wife. It was programmed regularly by King and is still
routinely performed in municipal bands.
