This is pretty typical of an R13, in actuality, ESPECIALLY if you're just
coming off of something that's lower line.

When I made the switch from my Vito to my R13, I had to learn to deal with
the resistance quirk, too. It's been almost three years, and I feel goofy
when I DON'T play with resistance. In fact, out of our entire studio, I
play the most resistant setup.

It freaks our principal out a little - he plays a B45 on an Opus and can't
fathom how I get the sound I do without putting up such a fight. Up until
he played my stick and mouthpiece, he thought the Jerry Hall he owned was
the most resistant rubber mouthpiece he encountered. As we prepared for a
performance of Le Nozze di Figaro, I opened my case to see my mouthpiece
missing. My practice of allowing people to borrow my equipment while
their's was in the shop came back to bite me - my mouthpiece had been
borrowed and NOT returned. Grrr...so my friend lent me his infamous
Jerry Hall. His eyes widened in horror as I strapped my 4.5 V12 to it,
played for two minutes, and told him that it was rather easy blowing?

"What are your lips made of? You're a resistance freak!" was his comment.

Two weeks later, he was granted the opportunity to play my setup, and
couldn't play for more than five minutes, and was unable to portamento.

*shrug*

I doubt you'll get to this point with your R13...and yeah, I meandered a
bit...but the point is...er was...uh, yeah, IS that you get used to the
resistance. If it's overbearing still after a week or two...then you
might have a problem worth looking into.

That's MY opinion, anyway. (Any as always, take it with some salt.
A 40 lb. bag should be enough...)
