Subj: [kl] choosing an E-flat clarinet
Date: Sat, 27 May 2000 19:49:57 -0400

I always wanted to play and get myself an E-flat clarinet. The time has
come: we are playing the 'perpetuum mobile' by Strauss in the orchestra and
I get the e-flat part. This years bonus hasn't been spend yet and it was
good.

I have been told that Buffet has just released a new version of the Prestige
which is supposed to be superb. Has anyone come across the instrument yet?
Are there any other favourites?

I've also been told that the 5RV mouthpiece by Vandoren is the best choice
for the e-flat clarinet. Again, any thoughts on this one?

I know, in the end I have to try it all out by myself and find what suits me
best. However I haven't played the instrument (e-flat one!) for quite a
while and would like to have some ideas before I start my search.

I'll let you know my findings and selection, once I have made up my mind.

thanks - Moritz
