I have a problem I hope I can get some advice with. As a consequence to
a post from Hiroshi recommending the purchase of a larger quantity of
reeds and treating them like good wine by storage before use, I went and
bought some 15 boxes of Grand Concert reeds. Only some 6 months later I
dipped into a box, and found 3 of the reeds with a brown longitudinal
discolouration affecting 1/3-1/2 of the reed. They seem less willing to
produce an acceptable sound than unaffected reeds. I have had alook
through several other boxes, and most contain reeds with this flaw. Is
this a common ocurrence without significance, or do I have in storage a
large number of "bad" reeds?
