Lori,

Have you read Tony Pay's article on tonguing? In Sept.99 Klar archives,
includes info on upper register tonging differences, and several
different ways to approach articulation.

A general principle that sometimes frees a stuck technique is to check
the other basics--air, embouchure, finger motion, imagery.

I venture these comments not because i know more about clarinet playing,
but because i have a *great* deal of experience in transcending slow
reflexes. % ;-)

ps I read the Jupiter movement with arts high school students a year
ago, and we played the piece in the fall. Seems to call for a bubbly,
frothy effect, effervescent, weightless. (Yeah, right, we *all* say.)

I'm sure i slipped in some slurs, don't remember exactly...and in the
orchestra i play in, a tempo i can't play a passage, many others are
struggling too.
