The King Super 20 is a phenomenal instrument. It is perhaps the most
under-rated pro horn of the 1940's - 1970's. I personally like it much
better than the best Mk VI's I've owned and played. The only other brand
that I think comes close to the Super 20 was the SML (Strasser-Marigaux
S.A., Paris) product of the 70's (both the King and the SML are head and
shoulders above any Selmer sax made IMHO). The King "Super-Sonic" (with
sterling neck and bell, with mother-of-pearl inserts in the side keys,
along with individually engraved key cups on the lower keys) was a tribute
to the American craftsperson/musical instrument builder, and in my opinion
unsurpassed by any other company. Yes, the instrument is probably worth
every cent of the $1800 (I have two Alto's for sale, one at $1650 and the
other at $1750, both in excellent condition).
