Thanks for all the responses to my question about the 2 instruments. The
discussion of Copland that Abe Galper initiated seems right on, I'm
preparing the "Appalachian" clarinet part right now and I was remembering
a story my teacher Jim Campbell told when I was at Indiana University;
when he was playing the Concerto for Copland before they did it together
here in Toronto, the one thing Copland specified was to play a certain
spot (near the beginning of the cadenza) simply, without vibrato.
