I was reading the post about warping reeds and started to think about a
reed that I have had since Feb 29. I think this reed has been the best reed
I have ever had. It does not want to die. When I made it, I was impressed by
the way it felt, tasted, and sounded. I was really worried about what would
happen to it when I was to have my graduate school auditions. I took it to
Cincinnati, Knoxville, and Columbus Ohio. But at each audition it sounded
great and did not warp or change with the weather. It even sleeted in
Cincinnati the day of my audition. I have given 3 recitals on it since then
and I played at my college graduation on it last week. I did re-cut it and
it is a lot shorter but it still sounds good. Sometimes it does not matter
how well you cut the reed and get the right dimensions because if the cane
is not good then the reed will not be good.
