The original movie was actually made in color, and The Blob was red, a
rather thinly disguised metaphor for the Red Scare of the 50s. The reason
the remake sucked was not that it was in color but because it lacked the
paranoiac subtext--it was just a lame horror movie.

However, perhaps it would be best it a teenaged Steve McQueen sprayed all of
our reeds with fire extinguishers and then airlifted them to the Artic.
