Fred's a nice guy and has a reputation as a great teacher. Enjoy!

I'm still a little bit numb from having so much information stuffed
into my brain during such a short moment of time. Probably I'll post
more after I've digested it.
One of the students played Stravinsky's three pieces, and Mr.
Ormond did encourage audience questions at the end. As I say, I was
suffering from mental overload, but I managed to raise the issue of
'dark vs. bright' and he both demonstrated and discussed the difference.
The only thing that I'm able to say right now is that 'dark' and
'bright' _are_ real things. I can't believe that anybody will ever
convince me otherwise. As with any complex concept, there may be some
people who simply don't see it, but the difference is real and
identifiable.

The other item that really impressed me was that (I'm being very
circumspect with my language here) one of the students was a 'hot shot'.
After this student's lesson was finished, this person walked out of the
room, and a small retinue from the audience got up and followed this
student out of the class room. It was like, "I've had mine, there's
nothing more for me here."
In retrospect, it doesn't surprise me that one of the students who
stayed for the entire class was the only student for whom the instructor
jumped up and cried out "Bravo!" at the end of her performance. She was
(IMO) the best musician there, and I'm sure that staying for the entire
class shows (partly at least) why she was the best.
