I posted here in November 1998 about playing Beethoven's Eighth
under the influence of a fever. I came quite close to passing
out in the second movement and didn't play several lines. The
ironic aspect was that I played the third movement better than
I ever had. This was probably because I was more relaxed than
usual, since my expectations of myself had diminished drastically.
I was happy just to get through it, and that eliminated a lot of
potential tension.

Listening to the tape, I would never have known I was sick except
for the omitted notes.
