I was reminded this morning of the posting a couple of months ago asking
(mainly) the amateurs on the list why they keep playing their instruments.

I was grousing about having to fill a couple of our fall chemistry classes
with temporary part time lecturers and I was not looking forward to all of
the negotiation/brow-beating that has to be traversed before the job is
done, so I pulled out my clarinet and played the Krommer Op. 45 #1 partita
with selected members of my Sili(con) symphony. It's really beautiful and
most folks, amateur as well as professional, have probably never seen it.
As I sat there playing it, my wife came in and said as long as I wasn't
doing anything could I take out the trash, but I kept playing right through
the 4th Rondo movement. You folks are going to LOVE the Menuetto. The
trio launches into a melody which transports the listener (and player)
right onto the bandstand of an Sunday afternoon concert in the Munich
Municipal Park. Lilting and definitely danceable. You're all going to be
ENCHANTED. I guarantee it!

Anyway, nowadays with wavetable music synthesis I feel like I've been
reborn to enjoy music plying the clarinet as never before. That's why I
keep up my instrument. On to my next World Premiere! 8-)

Oliver
