Having said that "it was subsequently established that he had been
unwell," which is simply what I was told when I went back this
year...and without wishing to disagree with what Mark says above...

...what I find striking about the music profession is how little being
ill -- unless you're *really* ill that is -- seems to affect musical
performance. In a way, it seems to make playing easier, because you
have a *proper reason* to feel terrible. That *is* unlike competitive
sports.

People have told me that I played really well on several occasions when
I was actually feeling like death warmed up.

Have others here had this experience?
