Patty, I have not had my hands on the book. All I have is some PR from
the publisher that was included with another book by D'Amante. It seems
Elvo S. D'Amante has two books, the first is 'Music Fundamentals'.
After finishing this book you supposedly would progress to book number
two entitled, 'All About Chords'. I have the second book but I feel it
is to advanced for me. So I am looking for a beginning or more basic
study guide.

Here is a little of what Ardsley House Publishers, Inc. included in an
insert with the second book:
Music Fundamentals
"Beginning with the first chapter, staff and ledger lines are
introduced. Throughout the entire text, a systematic use of four
currently-used clefs, (treble, alto, tenor, & bass), are presented for
study. The concept of identical pitches is explored, keyboard
illustrations are used to more graphically present abstract concepts,
chromatic scales are first introduced with the subsequent study of modal
scales, major scales, minor scales, (Aeolian, harmonic & melodic),
pentatonic and whole-tone scales. In addition, key signatures, (major &
minor), diatonic and chromatic intervals, instant modal transposition is
introduced, tritone considerations, and the study of triads & seventh
chords. With each chapter, the notation of rhythmic design is
systematically presented in small and meaningful ways to ensure a
thorough understanding."

There is more. But hopefully this is adequate?
