It doesn't work, but not for that reason, Roger.

Glissando, in the upper register at least, uses a very particular tongue
movement, coupled with a very 'leaky', half-holed tube, as I posted
previously. Opening keys slowly between normally played notes doesn't
give you an even glissando.

In fact, using the technique I posted, you actually have to be careful
that you don't get 'on the wrong harmonic' and bypass the top C when you
*want* ultimately to land on it, as in Rhapsody in Blue.

A good exercise is to set yourself up such a leaky tube, and then play
the British National Anthem (yes, it does have to be this tune, whatever
you want to call it -- otherwise it's a *different exercise*, isn't it?)
using just tongue movements.

You're allowed to alter the position of the fingers just slightly to get
the high note at the end:-)
