Subj: [kl] Blow out concert

Dear List:
A concert invitation to all those on the Florida Gulf coast. The Florida
Orchestra ends it's masterworks season with a performance of Strauss' Alpine
Symphony and the Rite of Spring, Jahja Ling conducts and the concert should
be a tremendous success. Performances are at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts
Center tomorrow at 8:00 PM, Saturday at the Mahaffey Theater in St.
Petersburg at 8:00 and Sunday at 7:30 at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater. I'm
exhausted from the doubles this week. I can't remember performing a more
difficult program in some time now. The Strauss in almost non stop playing
and my chops are totally fried. Against my better judgment I resisted the
use of earplugs the whole time, and I still have some ringing in my ears.
There seems to be an army of brass players behind me and I'd swear that they
are all aiming their bells at the back of my head. There is some relief,
when most of them go off stage for about fifty bars. Why couldn't Strauss
keep them their for the piece's entirety?
Deaf but loving it,
Mario Estrada
