If it's blue-green mold, it might be penicillin, but you never know. It
might be The Green Slime from outer space. Brown probably means The Blob,
right? At least I visualized The Blob as brown in the original
black-and-white movie, which I regard as the definitive source. I can't
remember what color The Blob was in that revisionist color remake. If it's
black, it's probably Fungi from Yuggoth that will use human bodies as hosts
in order to take over the Earth. What we need here are some miniature
reed-seeking Daleks: "Exterminate! Ex-ter-mi-nate!"

But seriously.... I have no idea if the mouthwash (which I also use on all
my mouthpieces once a week) is really doing any good. I think rinsing the
reeds and mouthpieces and drying them out after every use is probably more
important. Maybe the mouthwash just makes my reeds taste minty-fresh while
giving me a comfortable sense of righteousness. However, the stuff is
labelled as safe for human use, it contains alcohol and it's supposed to
"kill germs that cause bad breath," so I hope it will also kill whatever
makes old mouthpieces stink. I don't know exactly what makes that eau de
corpse I've smelled in vintage clarinet cases, but I don't want to be licking
it.
