It all depends on one thing: you. I play an R-13 and love it; some people
swear by other models. My advice is to play-test as many different models
as you can - don't necessarily restrict yourself to Buffet, either, because
Selmer, Yamaha and LeBlanc, to name but three, also have great
top-of-the-line clarinets - and decide what works best for you. I got my
R-13 because my teacher recommended it; if you're taking private lessons,
see what your teacher has to say. It may also be worth checking out what
other section members play (I'm assuming that you play in some sort of
group!) because it can affect blending etc etc. That said, though, in my
current section I'm playing an R-13, my co-principal is playing a Selmer
Series 10 (something like that, anyway) and the third member plays a LeBlanc
Esprit. And if we think about it and concentrate on it, blending is no
harder than it would be if we were all playing similar instruments. I
personally would say go for an R-13, but it may not work for you.

Hope this helps
Anna
