This brings to mind a question I've been wondering about. How can
you tell if your tone sounds good in a hall, i.e. to the audience? =
I have sat next to players who sounded quite ordinary from one seat =
away but who sounded spectacular in a hall.
You can ask a friend in the audience, but given the nebulousness of
terms used in discussing tone, this is a crude help at best.
You can listen to a recording of yourself, but this introduces much
uncertainty due to recording technique and quality.
So what do you do? When I'm playing in an orchestra, how can I tell
what I need to change to improve my sound?
What do the rest of you do?
Claudia
