Welcome back! After you sort thru the reed advice and get comfortable
there, take a slow and steady approach. I returned after a 15 year break
that included having asthma. My first long tone blowing sessions nearly
ended in my daughter calling an ambulance ! I persisted and eventually
rebuilt those breathing muscles. It sure never was such an effort in my
teen years !

The pain I felt in my lungs was akin to the muscle pain one gets from
overwork in the garden in the spring time, or from going back to an old
sport too quickly. After a few days it went away and now I actually feel
better in my breathing after a long practice .

Stick with it. It does take time to come back.
