""2. What edition of the Beethoven Sonatas for Clarinet and Bassoon
is of good quality, and where would you suggest purchasing
this edition?""

These Duets , it has been noted for some time, are of doubtful authorship.
Somehow they got into the Beethoven Augabe, Leipzig 1862-5
suppl. 1880, but by 1980 (New Grove) they were in the sin bin.
My irresponsible guess is that, on stylistic grounds, they could be
by Franz Tausch. There are 3 very similar (!) duos which bear Tausch's name
(Kloecker: Dabringhaus und Grimm CD L3366 (1990) ) but it may never be
proved.

""4. What edition of the Copland Concerto (arranged for clarinet and piano)
is of good quality, and where would you suggest purchasing this edition?""

Boosey and Hawkes' edition notes that it was "arranged for cl/pf by the
composer" but there is an obvious error of rhythm at bar 418 in the
clarinet part. The correct rhythm is in the piano score.

"" 5. What are some additional pieces of merit composed for clarinet and
bassoon?""

Koenigsbeck's bassoon bibliography lists over 150 duos for cl/bn
including works by Violet Archer, Charles Koechlin, Paul Pisk, Alfred
Prinz, Halsey Stevens, and Burnet Tuthill, but I know none of them
except by the reputations of the composers, so can only
recommend Poulenc's "for performance". Time to join the doublereed list!
Some earlier composers were over-prolific. One good piece may be found
amongst them: Devienne (12), George Fuchs (12),
Francois-Rene Gebauer (12) Michel Joseph Gebauer (6)
Goepfart (11) Zoeller (23). Goepfart's trio cl/bn/pf published by
Musica Rara is passable whereas all of Zoeller's works that I know
are abysmal.
