I think this may be more true in the UK than in the US. It's a bit like
our overdoing an American accent. Though Americans overdo English
accents too, there isn't (unfortunately) a good musical analogy.

I also belatedly realise that I passed over your:

...without acknowledgment: it's a very real problem, even if the problem
I encounter is usually the opposite. Well said.
