The brush finish is becoming more popular lately. The Selmer CL300 has it,
Yamaha has begun selling a version of the YCL-20 with it, the Vito
"Millenium" model has it, etc. It is favored in plastic oboes, too. It
works out nicely in that school kids are not subjected to any denigration
for having cheap plastic clarinets, since they LOOK just like the wood
ones. Unfortunately, it confuses many of the less knowledgeable people,
like parents, who can't tell the difference and may pay wood prices for
plastic! It can even sucker ignorant and poorly trained salespeople
(mostly brassholes and guitar guys)!
