David makes a great point here - all of us who teach beginners would do well
to heed this sage advice. I have made plenty of mistakes complicating the
learning process, instead of keeping it simple and easy. When I work on one
or two aspects of playing at a time, instead of trying to make each kid the
next Drucker , we get along better, the kids aren't as stressed out, and
they actually learn more quickly. In truth, perhaps some of the adult
beginners on the list may want to look at their own approach and make sure
they are not overcomplicating their own learning process with trying to do
everything perfectly from the get go and trying to buy only the highest
professional quality gadgets. Yes, make sure you have good equipment, and
yes, try to get the best sound you can, but, don't stress yourself out of a
fun time.
