Subj: [kl] McIntire clarinet fingerings
Date: Wed, 10 May 2000 11:32:02 -0400

G. Linch asked about fingerings for the McIntire Clarinet. Here they are.
This clarinet eliminates the G# and A keys found on the Boehm system by the
index fingers of the left hand. In the place of the ordinary vents are three
small successive vents coupled with the ring on the thumb hole.

The throat G# is obtained with the third finger of the left hand and no
thumb. A may be obtained by the 2nd finger of the left hand and no thumb, or
by the 2nd and 3rd fingers of the left hand and no thumb. Bb is sounded by
the 1st and 2nd fingers and no thumb; the 1st, 2nd, 3rd fingers and no thumb,
or the 2nd finger and thumb operating the register key (no thumb hole ring)
This system makes easier the fingering of the throat tones. The rest of the
fingerings follows the regulare Boehm System fingerings.

Mazzeo clarinet stuff. Cloyd Willimas was the clarinetist with the
Minneapolis Symphony playing a Mazzeo clarinet. This was in the '60's. The
best Mazzeo clarinets were the ones used on the Selmer 10 series,
unfortunately discontinued. I have a pair of these and well as a Bundy and a
Signet. One design he came up with that I wish all manufactureres offered was
the the articulated 3rd line B, 3rd space C#. You could keep the left finger
B lever down when playing C#. Made playing Bolero a cinch. I had this added
to one of my Selmers while I was studying with him from 1968-78.
Unfortunately I sold that clarinet. Should have kept it for the mechanism so
I could have my current clarinets modified. Ron Monsen is right. Rosario was
a true genius and one of the finest human beings I have ever had the
opportunity of associating with.
