Tom: The Brilhart is a really decent low end mouthpiece. Its been around
about 50 years, designed by Arnold Brilhart who was a working reedman of
no small repute in the early big bands and studio groups. In Bb clarinet,
try the #4 or #5. There is a distinct difference, the #5, more open, leaning
toward the jazz genre. The #3 and #4 better focus and scale. The #4 was my
choice for many years. The Brilharts were used by Shaw, Parker and a host
of others. It was said Arnold wanted to see a good affordable mp on the
market so the low price is not necessarily low quality.
