Saturday night (May 6) my family and I went to the Midwest Young Artists concert at Pick-Staiger Auditorium at Northwester University.

The featuered artist was John Bruce Yeh. He played the Copland Concerto, and movements 2 and 3 of the Corrigliano.

Both performances were masterful. John displayed the humor and cleverness in the Copland.

The Corrigliani was plyed with great tendernes in the slow movemnet and fiery intensity in the final movement.

The Orchestra, made up of Hiogh School kids rose to the occassion and gave a performance which could put many a university and some professional orchestras to shame!!!!

Today, I played principal with the Skokie Valley Symphony, in our final concert of the season. The concert consisted of Mousorgsky's "Kovanchina", Tschiakovsky's "Rococco Variations", Prokofiev's "Rpmoe & Juliet Suite I", and Stravinsky's "Suite from the Fairy's Kiss"

(Also, Bob Black of Evanston Band and Orchestra came in and played tenor sax on the Prokofiev. What a great sound he got on those solos, and yes, the low C#'s came out fine, each time!!!! Bob, if you're lurking, Great Job!))

Great clarinet parts!!!!!!!!!!

I was in heaven.......what a weekend!

Walter Grabner

BTW: Ya know that snot-colored mouthpiece on my webpage? Yup! I played on it, along with a barrel I made to fit it, and a Legere 3 1/2 reed.

Takes guts or EXTREME stupidity to play a concert, as above, with a mouthpiece and barrel that you made in your kitchen from scratch two weeks before. Dont know yet which attribute I exhibited!!!!!!!!
