I would dearly love to get such a tape, but I think it's impossible.
Marcellus gave an inspiring master class at the Clarinet Congress in Oberlin
several years ago, and it was definitely taped. He did quite a bit of
playing, which was better than anything done by some well known soloists in
their formal concerts.

I tried hard to get a copy, or even to listen to the tape, but got nowhere.
Marcellus had asked that the tape not be released, and that was that. Unless
someone was in the audience with a recorder, or had an "in" with the Oberlin
library (which is very protective of its collection), I doubt that there is
anything "floating around."

In issue of The Clarinet with Marcellus on the cover, he said in an interview
that he had recently listened to a tape of himself doing the Debussy Premiere
Rapsodie with the orchestra and thought it was excellent. There were a
number of queries about that, but no recording ever surfaced.

Most of the Severance Hall concerts were recorded by radio station WCLV for
national broadcast. I doubt that all of the older ones were preserved
(though some of them definitely were, since they are rebroadcast from time to
time), but it's certainly possible that someone made an aircheck. For
example, I have heard an aircheck of the Schubert Octet, played with full
orchestra.

If anyone knows of Marcellus aircheck, master classes or other material,
please let the rest of us know!
