Actually, not so, and don't count on that.

#1 - somebody, my apologies, but I can't remember who, mentioned that this
is a macro virus. It's not a macro virus - those execute would execute
automatically when you opened the email message - no other action would be
necessary. This is actually a Visual BASIC script - you can open the
message as many times as you like and be safe, just don't click on the
attachment.

#2 - it *spreads* by reading your Outlook address book. That's one way. It
also has a payload designed to spread if you use an IRC chat program called
mIRC. And it can affect your machine no matter what email program you use -
if you were silly enough to want to take a look at it and saved the
attachment, you can execute it no matter which email program was used to get
it to your machine. It will not be passed on via email if you aren't using
Outlook, but it could still be passed if you use mIRC, and it will STILL
delete or rename/move a number of file types, including .jpg image files and
.mp2 and .mp3 files.

And this program could as easily have been designed to grab the mailing list
from someone using Pegasus or Pine on their Windows-based machine - Outlook
was presumably targeted because it's so widely used in large companies,
making the virus spread faster.

How do I know? Because I had a look at the code early yesterday morning soon
after it started circulating.

That said, I *love* Pine. I just need functions that it doesn't have ;-)

It only affects people that use Microsoft Outlook, by the way. :)

Another reason why Pine is the superior e-mail client. ;)
