Actually the third and fourth parts are much harder, even though they are
a little lower. The repeated triplet ostinatos are VERY difficult to keep
in time, and for the thirds especially, as they cross the break.

I've heard many high schools play MotS, but usually this triplet ostinato
is buried (I would wager many times ON PURPOSE, as it is nigh unplayable)
and all you hear are the firsts and seconds while the really interesting
part gets buried.

1st/2nds:
Dit-dit-di-dah, Dit-dit-di-dah, Digidih-dah-dah-dee-dah-dee-dah...

simultaneously, the 3rds/4ths have:
Dit-dit-di-dah, Dit-dit-di-dah, Digidih-Digidih-Digidih-Digidih.

The bass clarinetist? (This was the case for me when I was in high
school...)

I think metronomes worldwide get more use during the preparation for that
piece more than any other. ^_^
