All due respect David, and to Matra also, but my reaction was to the word
NEVER........

A better way to say this would be to say....."There are at least two
techniques for increasing resistance in a reed....Here is one reason why I
prefer using sandpaper perdendicular to the tip of the reed, rather than a
reed clipper."

Personally, I have used both techniques. I never saw a clear cut advantage
from one over the other.

I will say one thing. The commercial reed makers clip the tips of their
reeds, and probably don't sharpen/replace the cutters every four or five
reeds. :>)
