The point is, it was up to her.

I know David Blumberg didn't actually say that either of these things
were surprising, so I probably came across rather strong to him.

I do think it's an important point, though. It can be particularly
important to students, who can get it wrong both ways.

There comes a time...earlier for some, later for others.........when it
really is "up to you."

I have recorded here some of the adventures I have made in developing my
understanding of how the clarinet works, how pitch and tone is made and
controlled, and how I can vary aspects of my physical relationship to my
clarinets.

I will never be a great player. I lack the muscle coordination, reflexes, and
memory.

But in working through some of these issues, I have improved my playing
immeasurably...did I take even one lesson? No.....

Read a lot.....
Listened a lot...
Experimented a lot...
Took virtually nothing for granted............

Worked on "What Works for ME"

If I wanted to learn the Oehler system clarinet......I'd get one, read up
about it, listen to others play.....then practice......

Only if I was severely stuck, for a period of time, would I go take a
lesson.....Ya gotta do it on your own eventually.

Now, why would I want to take a lesson from Tony......

I would like to hear him talk about his approach to voicing, tongue position,
etc. which he has thought through thoroughly, and I have developed
"sub-verbally".

Of course, discussing this stuff over a pint of Bass Ale might be even
better.....
