Regarding the identity of modern, plastic, Albert-type clarinets with no
labels or serial numbers, bright red pads and red thread instead of cork,
I've received several answers through private e-mail in addition to the ones
on the list. Several people (including a pro repairman) believe these
clarinets are made in China, while others think they might be Czech or from
some other former Eastern Bloc country. One person has a student who bought
one that had been sold in India for the princely sum of $11. My working
hypothesis is that these clarinets are made in China (since it sounded as
though the repairman probably *knew* and wasn't just speculating) . Not a
good sign when the manufacturer won't permanently mark its merchandise....
Methinks the maker is not proud of this clarinet.
