Well, playing is believing. So you have a CS. Mine is a CX, and I would
not trade it for diamonds, rubies or any other such things (and ya know,
diamonds are supposed to be a girl's best friend).
Evenness of tone and improved intonation (the horn was better in tune with
itself than the Buffets and Selmers I'd played) were what sold me years ago.
BTW, I have a new toy as well. A plastic (I think) Bundy Eefer that I
picked up in a pawn shop for $80.00 (Go ahead - I know Lelia and several
others will say I paid too much). Serial number 8326. And it was so easy
to cut down Bb reeds to fit. I just cut the butt end off about a half inch
(I'm visual with measurements - about the height of a barrel ring), and
presto, I've got a great reed for Eefer. It also plays really nicely among
the registers. I had to tweak a couple of things (the throat Ab key comes
to mind, the pad part and the key part), but overall, it will be fine for
practice until the day I can find a wooden one in a pawn shop for about the
same price. Even the mouthpiece plays okay. (Geo. M. Bundy 3 with a gouge
in the bottom of the window, no less. I thought that would make it
unplayable, but I guess I was wrong. It'll be great fun to take to the
local community band practices that I drop in on from time to time. Maybe
we will sightread. Probably some of those scary marches which go straight
to the screech register - terrorist clarinet is born!!!
Sorry folks, I got carried away. Celebration's over, let's go home.

Patty Smith - who wishes she could buy a lot more new instruments
