I'm also a member of Muir College -- it's the only place to be if you're a
music major at this science school. As far as opportunities are concerned,
I'm reminded of a friend's conversation with the jazz trumpeter Roy
Hargrove:

Roy: Where are you from?
Friend: San Diego
Roy: Oh yeah, San Diego's a nice city if you don't like music (laughs)
Friend: d'oh!

Actually you're right, there are opportunities here but I hope to move to LA
in the next couple of years and maybe New York or Europe after that...
"Steady gig" isn't a fabled concept over there.
